Foreign direct investment (FDI) is still flowing into Thailand even though foreign investors had turned from Thai shares to long-term bonds to limit investment risks, Pongpen Ruengvirayudh, assistant governor at the central bank, said on Tuesday.
This had prevented the baht from sharply weakening as happened to other currencies in the region due to profit taking in Asian capital markets by foreign investors, she said.
Mrs Pongpen said the current fluctuation in gold prices affected the movement of the value of the baht against the US dollar, but this had no significant impact on the baht value’s direction and therefore it was not a cause of concern.
