Delays from runway shutdown mild

Flight delays resulting from the maintenance shutdown of one of the two runways at Suvarnabhumi airport seem less critical than feared, but a stress test could come this weekend when traffic builds up.

As overlay work on the eastern runway proceeded in earnest from Monday until yesterday, take-offs and landings were 10-15 minutes behind schedule - the time range normally seen at the airport.

But 18% of flights at the airport were more than 30% behind timetable, mostly involving medium- and long-haul flights between 10pm and midnight, said Airports of Thailand (AoT).
