The Finance Ministry has yet to commit to amending current tax law to allow women to file personal tax returns separately from their spouse.

Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong said the issue required careful consideration about the potential impact.

Allowing husbands and wives to file tax returns separately would potentially result in lower personal income tax revenues for the state, as separate filings would allow some taxpayers to reduce their effective tax rate under the progressive tax system.
