Miners blast licence delays

Mining businesses are calling on the government to help accelerate the approval of mining licences, as only a handful of new projects have been approved in the past seven years. 

"The approval process has long been delayed," said Chadap Padmasuta, chairman of the Mining Industry Council.

"Only six out of more than 100 applications have been approved by the Primary Industries and Mines Department after seven years."
