B8bn slated for new border checkpoints

- +

The Thai Customs Department plans to earmark 8 billion baht to expanding customs border checkpoints nationwide over the next three years.

The department wants to ensure it can handle the high levels of border trading activities that are expected once the Asean Economic Community is formed in 2015.

Director-general Somchai Pulsawas said the budget is part of a massive 2-trillion-baht infrastructure project investment by the government.
