The Finance Ministry has directed the Thailand Tobacco Monopoly (TTM) to submit a plan next year to expand operations abroad with the goal of doubling revenue.
Deputy Finance Minister Tanusak Lek-uthai said he does not expect the campaign to attract opposition from domestic anti-smoking groups. Expanding operations internationally will broaden the TTM's market from 20 million in Thailand.
The TTM made 32.5 billion cigarettes last year, up by 14% from 2010. Revenue totalled 69.8 billion baht, up by 6%.
