Industry confidence down again

The Thai Industries Sentiment Index (TISI) for October was down from 94.1 in September to stand at 93.0, the lowest for 11 months, Payungsak Chartsuthipol, chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), said on Friday.

The FTI’s industry confidence survey was conducted in October, involving 1,153 manufacturers in 42 industry groups.

The industry confidence figure has been below the 100 level for four straight months, showing low confidence in the industry sector, said Mr Payungsak.

D3: internal consumption? Ah yes, the old economic fallacy returns. Perhaps you'd like to see easier access to credit as a means to "stimulate" internal consumption? And then perhaps a special mortgage program so that everyone can purchase a home? It worked so well in Spain and Greece that its bound to work here.

Here's a clue: No one gets wealthier moving money from one pocket to another. And artificially stimulated consumption only ever makes you poorer. But it does make bankers wealthy in the short run. Perhaps that was what you were suggesting.

Correct, first they exploit their workers for years then they want the government to help them replace those workers, or failing that let them employ cheap foreign labour. Nice people.

It is necessary for private sector to accept the reality of factors that contributed to the drop on industry confidence figure and make adjustments. It is not just a phenomenon that only Thailand faced. The government must encourage domestic consumption and depend less and less on export. The government can also open the door to manufacturing that depend on our manufactured parts for finished products like automobile industries. Increase productivity and create an environment for competitive wages and enumeration. Promote and 'reward' the use of alternate energy for manufacturing.

"Moreover, the manufacturers wanted the government to set up a state fund to provide small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with soft loans for buying new machines to replace the use of workers." In other words, they want the PT government to help them buy machinery to put the PT voters out of work. Don't hold your breath.

So they are actually saying they have no confidence in the governments ability to manage the home economy.
