First-time car scheme tab to hit B70bn

The government expects a million owners to apply for tax rebates for its overwhelmingly successful first-time car buyer scheme, costing it more than double its 30 billion baht estimate, says Deputy Finance Minister Tanusak Lek-uthai.

He said tax rebate applications had reached 910,000, asking for 60 billion baht.

Currently 30,000 participants are eligible to receive the rebate because they have held car ownership for one year, amounting to 2 billion baht in rebates.
