Poll finds Bangkokians gadget-happy

Smartphones, TVs and notebooks/tablets are the top three technologies that make for happier Bangkokians, says a poll commissioned by LG.

Thunyachate Ekvetchavit (second from right) and Suparang Anuchapreeda (right) from LG Electronics (Thailand) release a poll offering a complete snapshot of Bangkokians’ attitudes towards work and social relationships and their interplay with technology.

Conducted by Suan Dusit Poll, the survey of 1,037 people aged 20-45 in the central business district found 32% saying a smartphone or mobile is the device that makes life good - especially among women 20-25 years old - followed by television sets with 24%, notebooks/tablets (23%) and music/MP3 players (5%).

The survey has recognized that Thailand is now inhabitated by Bangkokians, a colonialist power that has finally taken over the country with whitening cream and smartphones while all other civilizations have failed.

@discussion 12 - The same applies to cars. One simply must have one because everyone else does.

Thai's earning 6,000 thb per month with a smartphone costing 25,000 thb that they are making installment payments on. The shocking thing is they all believe somehow having this phone makes them more important to society. Gee, I am broke, eating street food and playing with my 25,000 baht smartphone. How completely ridiculous is this? It just goes to show you that most Thai's have NO quality of life and rely on their smartphone as a technological life support system.

When I look at the people who are living in our building, perpetually rubbing the screen of their smartphones wherever they go, totally unaware of their surroundings, I can't help but wondering whether we are evolving backwards and that in time we will walk with our knuckles scraping over the sidewalk...

    I rest my case.

What a frivolous poll if there ever was one...why would anyone want a TV today? You have a computer connected, you can watch anything you want - When you want. And who cares about using technology for education today...go figure this poll.

Nothing funnier than watching a table of Thais out having dinner at a well to do restuarant, yes you guessed it, instead of having well valued personal connectionconversation time, they are ALL ignoring one another while they sms on their smartphones checking their facebook page as though their live depends on it!!!! One reason I have refused my daughter an iPhone for the past 18 months, and now ask a friend not to turn on his iPad at our restaurant table...

What about a survey of how sedentary people are becoming sitting around all day touching a screen .

Look on the BTS.... The least smart part of the smartphone population are the users themselves........messaging and playing games are high in the list of brainless activities. The iPhone is not as much a smartphone as it is a status symbol.

I would like to see the (leading) questions. This survey is absolutely non representative. Just a way of promoting LG.. How sick. You know what I want? To get all those eye-soaring billboards from the streets, particularly those of LG.
