The Surin Chamber of Commerce has reported that two factories have already closed in the northeastern province with more likely to follow suit due to the new 300-baht daily minimum wage.

Chamber chairman Kriangsak Palikupt said that many businesses were still confused about reports that the government plans to cover 60% of the labour cost hike. The daily minimum pay rate has been raised from 226 to 300 baht in the province, an increase of 74 baht or 32.7%

The government needs to impose price controls on consumer products for the workers to fully benefit from the higher wages, Mr Kriangsak added. He expressed concern that if consumer costs are allowed to increase, most people would be affected.

Maybe you didn't notice: this is a political dictated rise of wages of 32.7%!!! Why they not put the daily minimum wage up to 2380 baht, equivalent to the daily minimum wage in Germany??? And if business owners not pay it - just put them in jail ... And business owners might ask, why they not lowered the daily minimum wage to 30 baht, equivalent to the daily minimum wage in Cambodia??? And what would you say if you would have to pay 32.7% more for your bread, milk, clothes or gasoline beginning from tomorrow. You cannot dictate wages or prices - they are a result of the global economy.

So it came out that this government is not ready to implement that wage increase law and now the ordinary workers have to suffer. What will happen to those sacked employees and those employees of these factories that will closed? Isn't not better to have work with low salary than without work at all. Why all this rush can't you wait untill those mitigating measures are ready also...

Here we go with the "should" arguments. We "should" all have free healthcare. We "should" all have free college education. We "should" have state provided pensions. We "should" have nice houses.

Stop using ridiculous arguments you learned in now bankrupt western nations. Those countries have already failed. Those pensions aren't getting paid. Unemployment is high. The student loan bubble is imploding. .... And for some reason people still make an example of Western spending habits as if they "work".

Even more absurd are the people making those "should have" arguments dressed in clothes made in Chinese & Indian sweatshops.

Then go stage a raid on the 7-Elevens. The average clerk makes about 6500 baht a month and probably works 6 days a week for that.
