Thais eye urban Myanmar

People in Myanmar are expected to flock to the cities over the next few years as they are willing to embrace modern lifestyles as the country's economy opens up, says research firm Envirosell Thailand.

Thai brands and marketers should monitor this new market and find appropriate marketing strategies for it, said managing director Sarinporn Jiwanun.

The firm's survey was recently conducted among 620 respondents in the northern, southern and central areas of Yangon. Most were between 15 and 45, and only 20% were over 45.

I'm having trouble with the words "urban" and "Burma" in the same sentence... Let alone "contemporary" and "cosmopolitan".

What is coming already smells like a hype-fueled bubble of utterly monstrous proportions. Just remember all you emerging-market analysts: when it all falls to pieces, "no one could have possibly seen it coming".
