Alstom-Sumitomo group wins power plant contract

A consortium of France's Alstom and Japan's Sumitomo Corporation has been awarded a contract to build an 850-megawatt combined-cycle power plant (CCPP) in northern Bangkok.

The North Bangkok power plant is owned by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat). Alstom's share in this contract, which was signed last week, amounts to about 225 million euros (9 billion baht).

It will supply electricity to meet fast-growing demand in the Thai capital.
