SET declines 1.16% on Fed aftermath

Jitters as US signals it may tighten up

Thailand's stock market fell sharply yesterday in line with regional markets on concerns over the US Federal Reserve signalling it may exit its loose monetary policy.

Wall Street slid sharply the previous night after the Fed discussed asset purchases to stimulate the economy. That may result in the Fed having to slow or stop its bond-buying programme sooner than expected.

There was also concern that Chinese policymakers will cut short their monetary stimulus, while South Korean exporters are being hurt by the won's appreciation.
