Power-saving programme gains steam with sign-ups

The Industrial Promotion Department expects 100 factories to join its energy management programme this year, with each one cutting electricity consumption by at least 10%.

So far, 734 factories have participated over the past decade, resulting in a savings of 1.33 billion baht. Half the players taking part are located in and around Bangkok.

Samakki Pocharoen, director of the department's Bureau of Target Industries Development, said the department received a budget of 8.5 million baht this year to hire experts to consult with 100 factories on cutting energy use by 10% or 1 to 1.2 million baht a year.
