State revenue fell 2% in first seven months

Net revenue collection fell 2% year-on-year to 1.22 trillion baht during the first seven months of fiscal 2017, according to the Fiscal Policy Office.

Director-general  Krisada Chinavicharana said on Monday the year-on-year decline was due mainly to the high base in 2016 as a result of the 3G and 4G mobile licence auctions.

Excluding last year's one-time gains, the figure this year expanded 2.8% year-on-year, he said.

The number also exceeded the target by 0.4% thanks to the collection by other agencies and state enterprises' higher-than-expected profits.

"Taxes on oil, corporate income and beer also exceeded the targets," he said.

The trend, coupled with the recovering economy, bodes well for the revenue collection for the rest of the fiscal year," he said.

A breakdown showed revenue collected by the Revenue Department rose 2.3% year-on-year to 867.7 billion baht, led by corporate income tax (+9.7), value added tax (+2.1%), petroleum tax (-63.1%) and special business tax (9.3%).

The Excise Department reported a 6.6% drop in revenue collection to 327 billion baht, driven by oil tax (+28.6%), motorcycle tax (+14.2%), other taxes (-24%) and auto tax (-6.5%).

Duty collection by the Customs Department fell 10.2% to 59.8 billion, led by other incomes (39.7%) and export duty (-39.3%).

State enterprises profit contributions rose 13.3% to 96.3 billion baht.
