SET up 0.68 points to 1,584.91

Thai stocks edged up on Friday in line with an upbeat trend across Asia, folowing Thursday's record close on Wall Street.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand Index rose 0.68 point from Thursday to close at 1,584.91, a gain of 0.2% from the previous Friday's close . Turnover was 53.39 billion baht, with 18.48 billion shares traded.

The SET50 index increased 0.65 points or 0.06% to 1,057.43 in trade worth 27.97 billion baht. The MAI index, however, fell 2.45 points or 0.36% to 687.62 points, with total transaction value of 8.80 billion baht.

Foreign investors were net buyers on Friday of 1.78 billion baht worth of Thai shares, bringing their net buying for the month to 15.1 billion baht. For the year to date they are net sellers of 9.75 billion baht.

Local institutions were net buyers of 445.59 million baht and brokers bought 248.4 million. Individual investors were net sellers of 2.48 billion baht. 

In the currency markets,the baht declined slightly from a week earlier in line with the regional trend,as the prospect of a US interest-rate increase dimmed the appeal for emerging-market assets.

The baht was trading late Friday in Bangkok at 32.23 to the dollar compared with 32.27.29 on Thursday and 32.18/20 a week earlier.
