SET surges 32.90 to 1,300.51

The Stock Exchange of Thailand main index jumped 2.60%, or 32.90 points, to 1,300.51 on Tuesday, the biggest single-day percentage gain since Aug 27.

Total trading value was 57.07 billion baht, with 10.77 billion shares changed hands.

SET50 index shot up 2.82%, or 22.85 points, to 833.49 in trade worth 40.75 billion baht.

MAI soared 2.69%, or 13.67 points, to 521.77, in total transaction value of 1.67 billion baht.

Institutional investors were the only buyers, at 5.8 billion baht. Foreign investors sold a net 3.24 billion baht, followed by small investors (1.94 billion) and brokers (622.80 million).

Year-to-date, foreign investors sold a combined 133.04 billion baht while small investors were the biggest buyers, at 74.45 billion.

Investors bought telecoms shares amid an auction of fourth generation licences on Tuesday.

Shares of Advanced Info Service surged 10.8%, the top mover on the MSCI Thailand index on expectations it would be among winning bidders.

The SET outlook remained bearish due to weak economic recovery and relatively stretched valuations, according to BMI Research. The index trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 17 times versus 14.6 times of the MSCI index of Southeast Asia, it said.
