Getting to the other side

Does Bangkok need a footbridge over the mighty Chao Phraya?

For more than 50 years, Bangkok citizens have depended on ferries to cross the Chao Phraya River, and the sight of city travellers crammed on the docks waiting for ferries has become a familiar lifestyle picture. Now, with talk of a project to build a skywalk along the course of Chao Phraya River to offer convenience to travellers, most notably the elderly and children, many have voiced concerns. Some believe it would be an eyesore for Rattanakosin Island while others believe it will affect the traditional lifestyle for ferry operators or vendors along both banks of the river. 'Muse' asks what you think of the project. Should it go ahead and why? If you think it should, what issues should the authorities take into account?

I think it should go ahead as it might diminish the pollution made by the ferries. The beautiful scenery and its accessibility will improve as well. Anyway, the authorities should be concerned about the location and number of bridges in order to preserve the original state of the communities along both banks of the river. Moreover, its style and design should take into account Thai aesthetics. The construction should be closely supervised to make sure environmental conservation is considered."
