Aberdeen cautious on Asian growth
Investors should buy on weakness
Asian economies have posted a "V-shaped" recovery thanks to strong underlying fundamentals, and investors should take advantage of any market weakness to seek buying opportunities, said Ratanawan Saengkitikomol, the investment manager for Thai equities at Aberdeen Asset Management.
She said the performance of most Asian markets in the second quarter was weakened by worries of sovereign credit risk in developed economies and the move to tighten monetary policy by Asian countries due to worries over inflation. "Although first quarter earnings were generally better than analyst forecasts, it was insufficient to outweigh the negatives," Mrs Ratanawan said.
"And the main driver of Asian markets continues to be global risk appetite rather than fundamentals. A G-8 'double dip' would certainly impact headline Asian growth."
