Making brands more like people

Globally, social media sites have almost doubled in popularity over the last year. According to the Nielsen Company, one of every four-and-a-half minutes spent online is spent on social networking sites.

In Thailand, Facebook has gone from fewer than 1.5 million users at the start of 2010 to almost 5.5 million now. Thailand repeatedly places in the top five countries with the fastest growing Facebook markets. Social networks are becoming very much mainstream. Marketers ignore them at their peril, but need to remember that social networks are very much about people.

What are social networks? Social networks are people sharing content with people. People creating content for each other and delivering that content online. People helping each other, and in so doing potentially by-passing the help and advice offered traditional institutions: like your business.
