SET seen peaking at 1,186 in 2012 amid euro-zone crisis

Analysts are predicting the SET index will peak at 1,186 points next year after averaging 1,046 points this year, with the main challenge for 2012 being the EU debt crisis.

Sombat Narawutthichai, secretary-general of the Securities Analysts Association, said 19 brokers surveyed believe the SET index could drop to a low of 894 points for an average of 1,130 points.

A big positive factor will be the corporate income tax dropping to 23% next year and 20% in 2013.

There are many sectors in Thailand which have nothing to do with tourism -nor the EU crisis, or exports. Are brokers here attuned to that? Like Thai infrastructure plays or now mega green energy projects, which will grow regardless of EU/USA troubles. The "problem" as always is that many stocks in these sectors command often smaller cap. status and so are off the radar screens of institutions and the dominant day traders, but not the rational individual investors which are a silent majority.
