Thais embrace online shopping

Thailand ranks as the regional leader in online shopping, according to a survey by MasterCard Worldwide.

Some 93% of Thais surveyed said they planned to make a purchase online over the next six months, tied with China for first in the region. Korea was third at 84%, followed by Malaysia at 79%.

MasterCard surveyed 25 emerging markets from December to February. The Asia Pacific report included interviews with 7,373 respondents from 14 markets.

Get serious! Thailand as regional leader in online shopping! Over the years I have done my fair share of purchases on line but recently countless online markets warn they can’t ship to Thailand. Some (clothing) items that come through are flagged and charged a customs amount greater than the cost of the item. Thailand certainly won’t allow an international level playing/purchasing field.

I think this survey is very wrong. Thailand ranks very low and definitely not a leader. Top 5 leaders I would say are China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore / Malaysia.
