Far South open for business

Most local businesses in Thailand's southernmost region appeared to be open for work on Friday, the Muslim sabbath, after being closed last Friday because of fears of terrorist strikes.

Narathiwat governor Apinant Suethanuwong said most shops in the city had opened their doors on Friday morning. He expected more would also open in Sungai Kolok district.

A majority of local shops in the southern border region were shuttered last week after they were warned by insurgent groups not to work on the Muslim sabbath.

40,000 troops in the area and only 30 could be given to the central business district of Yala? Wow, nice work Chalerm. What do you have the other 39,970 doing, building you a golf resort?
