Post International marks record profit

Post International Media, the magazine subsidiary of Post Publishing Plc, posted operating profits of 58 million baht in 2012, up more than 20% from the previous year.

Supakorn Vejjajiva, the chief executive officer of Post International, said it was the highest profit in the company's 19-year history.

Consolidated revenues reached 530 million baht in 2012, making the company one of the largest magazine publishers in the country if measuring by revenue.

Post International publishes the Thai-language editions of Elle, Cleo, Marie Claire, Elle Decoration, Martha Stewart Living and Science Illustrated.

The company plans to launch five new magazines this year, including three in the second quarter: Forbes Thailand, Fast Bikes Thailand and Cycling Plus Thailand.

Mr Supakorn, also the president and chief operating officer for Post Publishing, said both Elle and Cleo enjoyed more than 20% growth in advertising revenue in 2012 despite a decline in the overall magazine advertising market.

He said the growth strategy for 2013 would focus on spin-off publications, tie-in events and digital applications, adding that the company aims to boost operating profits to 100 million baht within three years.

Post Publishing, which publishes the Bangkok Post, Post Today and M2F newspapers, reported a 2012 consolidated net profit of 126.4 million baht, up 150% from the year before. Sales and service revenues jumped 21% year-on-year to 2.37 billion baht, with publishing and advertising revenues up 20% to 1.98 billion.

Shares of Post Publishing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand closed yesterday at 5.85 baht, down 25 satang, in trade worth 3.5 million baht.
