WashBox24, a Bangkok-based startup providing 24-hour laundry locker service, has unveiled a mobile application to offer delivery and pickup points for goods.

Nithipont Thaiyanurak, chief executive of WashBox24 (Thailand), said the ShopBox service gives customers alternative delivery options for products ordered online from the hypermarket chain Tesco Lotus.

The service is intended to capitalise on the growing e-commerce retail industry and cater to the needs of changing consumer lifestyles, he said.

With the ShopBox service, Tesco Lotus customers can receive their online purchases at ShopBox pickup points at 50 electronic locker locations across Bangkok.

WashBox24 earns delivery fees for each order from Tesco.

"There is plenty of room for pickup services to grow in Thailand," said Mr Nithipont.

WashBox24 also provides 24-hour laundry locker service, enabling users to drop off their dirty laundry at one of its locker locations.

Users can either sign up for the service online via a mobile app or in-store.

Mr Nithipont said the concept was inspired by the automatic left-luggage lockers in Japan.

The company has designed and made its lockers in Thailand for 100,000 baht a piece, drastically lower than the average 1 million baht price tag for similar storage compartments.

WashBox24 serves around 5,000 customers a week.

In addition to the laundry and pickup point services, WashBox24 offers a parcel delivery service under the MoveBox brand, a collaboration with logistics service provider Kerry Express.

Mr Nithipont also said WashBox24 plans to expand its automatic laundry locker service in Singapore through a local partnership.

"We selected Singapore as the first country for expanding abroad because of its large number of high-rise buildings, high incomes and high smartphone penetration rate," he said.

Based on internal research, Mr Nithipont said Thailand's laundry service market is expected to be worth US$400 million (14.5 billion baht) annually, compared with $4.6 billion in the Asian market.

WashBox24 late last year received seed funds from 500Startup and 500TukTuks to expand its business for an undisclosed sum.
