Digital TV more popular, music contests new top hits

The number of digital TV viewers has come close to that of conventional TV and highly popular TV programmes are music contests, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) reported on Thursday.

Its survey from July 1-15 showed that 53.57% of TV viewers watched the conventional TV channels 3, 5, 7, 9, NBT and Thai PBS, and 46.43% watched digital TV channels, NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith said.

The NBTC also found that talent contest programmes were as popular as soap operas and sports programmes.

The most popular talent contest programme was Golden Microphone on Workpoint TV, followed by I Can See Your Voice Thailand on the same channel, Kik Duu Songkhram Phleng on Channel 7, Dun Dara on Channel 3, and Suek Wan Dual Phleng on GMM One.

Most of the talent contest programmes featured music competition and three of the five popular programmes were on digital TV, Mr Takorn said.

He also said that advertisement spending on TV in June stood at 6.08 billion baht, down 4% from May, while spending on digital TV rose 3% to 1.75 billion baht.
