WHA allots B43bn for investment

SET-listed WHA Corporation Plc, Thailand's biggest developer of built-to-suit logistics facilities, plans to sink 43 billion baht of its investment budget into a five-year plan for 2016-20.

Of the total, 14 billion is earmarked for the core logistics business and another 14 billion baht for industrial development, said chief executive and vice-chairman Jareeporn Jarukornsakul.

Some 11 billion is for utilities and power business, with the remaining 4 billion going to digital business.

WHA expects total revenue to reach 21 billion baht within five years, up from the target of 17 billion for 2016.

"Most of the investment budget will come from its own cash, while 7 billion baht will be raised by issuing debentures," Ms Jareeporn said. The company received shareholder approval to issue debentures in April.

Ms Jareeporn said the government policy to promote the Eastern Economic Corridor means massive investment in infrastructure, trade facilities and logistics systems to boost investment in the eastern provinces of Chon Buri, Rayong and Chachoengsao.

The government has prepared 500 rai of land at U-tapao airport to serve as the aviation hub of Asean, while the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) prepared 30,000 rai of land to accommodate 29 industrial estates in the region, of which 15,000 rai has been developed.

David Nardone, a group executive overseeing industrial and international investment, said the company plans to invest 10 billion baht in a Vietnamese industrial estate on 10,000 rai.

"WHA expects to get Vietnamese government approval on the development in the last quarter this year, with development starting next year," he said.

In the first phase, the company plans to spend 1 billion baht to develop 3,000 rai. The second phase will see investment of 1-2 billion to develop another 3,000 rai, said Mr Nardone.

In Thailand, WHA plans to develop 2,000 rai for the second phase of an industrial estate in Saraburi.

WHA shares closed yesterday on the SET at 3.08 baht, down four satang, in trade worth 190 million baht.
