Minister: Consumption back to normal

The economy will grow more than 3% this year, with fundamentals still intact and consumption back to normal, the finance minister said on Thursday, amid concerns that domestic activity could be hit by mourning for King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

"At first, we were worried that spending could drop. But as we've asked KTC, it said it had fallen only 2-3 days and is now back to normal," Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong told reporters, referring to credit card firm Krungthai Card .

The government is ready to introduce additional stimulus measures if needed, Mr Apisak said.

The finance ministry has forecast 2016 economic growth at 3.3% and is due to give an updated forecast on Friday.
