Honda Automobile (Thailand) on Tuesday said it was recalling another 165,128 vehicles manufactured between 2007 and 2011 to replace front passenger air bag inflators made by Takata Corp.
The latest announcement, extending the range of models, brings the total number of Honda vehicles recalled by the company in Thailand to about 865,000 units.
The defective air bags supplied by Tokyo-based Takata have been linked to at least 16 deaths, mostly in the US, and more than 150 injuries worldwide.
For the new announcement issued on Tuesday, the models affected are.
- 2009-2011 Honda City
- 2009-2011 Honda Jazz
- 2009-2011 Honda Freed
- 2009-2011 Honda Civic
- 2007-2011 Honda CR-V
- 2008-2011 Honda Accord
On May 18, the company issued the first call to change the airbag for the driver and passenger seats for many models with production years dating back to 2002. It recalled another 234,819 vehicles manufactured between 2011 and 2013 for replacement of the driver's seat front airbag on July 12.
The latest death linked to Takata air bags built with inflators prone to spraying metal and plastic shards at vehicle occupants was reported in Malaysia last month. The faulty devices triggered the world’s largest auto recall involving more than 100 million vehicles involving 17 automakers worldwide.
