TechStar aids IT job hunt with Line app

TechStar Thailand, a Bangkok-based IT job search website, has introduced a Line app to serve social media users.

"Having the Line channel enables us to reach job seekers among Line's 33 million users," said Chuladej Machimanond, general manager of TechStar Thailand, an online marketplace for skilled workers.

Job seekers can add the @TechStarTH account, then type keywords such as "Java" (the programming language) in Line chat. The system will return results for positions and employers.

The search can find jobs five different ways: by application, by development skill, by job title, by system or by industry.

Line provides an alternative channel for job seekers aside from the website and mobile site.

"This will differentiate us from rivals," Mr Chulajej said.

TechStar is targeting job seekers aged 25-35 years for 1,200 positions posted by 400 organisations.

"We estimate there are roughly 100,000 IT professionals with technical skills in Thailand," Mr Chulajej said.

The top IT skills in high demand are Java, .NET and PHP developers, followed by business and system analysts, software testers, project managers and mobile app developers.

Demand is also rising in emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things, blockchain and cloud computing, with employers increasingly listing such areas as "nice to have" skills in job descriptions.

Mr Chuladej foresees a trend of IT professionals working for startups. The past year has witnessed notable growth in the number of IT professionals interested in working for a tech startup, compared with a few years ago when startups struggled to attract talent.
