Thailand's digital signage market is projected to grow by at least 30% in 2017, outpacing single-digit growth in the overall electrical appliance market, thanks to the country's digital transformation.
The local market for digital signage equipment has seen strong adoption because the technology can reduce costs and increase efficiency, said Boonlerd Viboonkiat, vice-president for the enterprise business team at Thai Samsung Electronics.
In 2016, Thailand's digital signage equipment market grew by 70%, compared with global average growth of 22%.
The local digital signage market can expect to reach 2.5 billion baht in 2017, Mr Boonlerd said.
The global digital signage market is expected to be worth US$15.4 billion in 2018, up from $7 billion in 2014.
Samsung expects its digital signage business to grow by 30% this year, in line with the industry's growth, Mr Boonlerd said.
He said digital signage makers are providing more high-resolution displays at lower prices.
To support the customer experience, Samsung has introduced electronic shelf labels. Retailers can quickly change prices, promotions and inventory data on every shelf in the store.
The company has also rolled out digital signage with mobile sensors that display product information when potential buyers walk past the shelf.
Samsung is offering smart displays for indoor video featuring a deeper visual impact and thinner bezel width of 1.7 millimetres.
"Banking, retail, transport such as airports, cinemas, fast-food chain restaurants and educational institutions are key sectors for smart display signage," Mr Boonlerd said.
Samsung plans to choose 10 out of its 100 dealers as authorised vendors operating service centres nationwide this year.
