Food Capitals gobbles up two firms

Food Capitals Plc, the franchise operator of Domino's Pizza and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, has acquired two food companies for a combined 400 million baht.

Of the total budget, the company spent 121 million baht to buy out G Enterprise & Co, which operates four restaurant brands: Pirate Chambre, Chingcha Chalee, Umami Falabella and Moom Muum Park.

Another 289 million baht was used to acquire the food business from Osha Group in the US. Osha has five restaurant brands: Lao Table, Osha Thai, Osha Thai 3rd Street, Osha Express and After Osha.

Tanakorn Angpubate, chief executive of Food Capitals, said the acquisitions strengthen its food business.

G Enterprise has 20 years of experience in the food business while Osha Group is famous in California, with a strong customer base in the US.

"Both G Enterprise and Osha have performed well and have growth potential in the future," Mr Tanakorn said.

G Enterprise wants to expand overseas but can't go it alone, making the Food Capitals acquisition likely to help it accelerate international growth, he said.

Food Capitals allocated a budget worth 200 million baht to open two new restaurants for G Enterprise in Bangkok this year and another two in the US.

Mr Tanakorn said Food Capitals will focus mainly on food operations and reduce investment in the hospitality business for the near term.

The company has a flexible policy to either offer joint ventures with other food operators or acquire interesting food companies.
