Land rented for new southern industrial estate

The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) has rented 629 rai in Songkhla province from the Treasury Department for 50 years to develop a 1-billion-baht industrial estate with potential to attract 13 billion baht in investments.

IEAT governor Verapong Chaiperm

IEAT governor Verapong Chaiperm said the new estate in Sadao district was in line with the government's plan to develop a special economic zone.

Construction should begin in the middle of next year after the lease contract was signed on Tuesday.

According to him, the compound will include 289.63 rai for industries and 119.57 rai for logistics.

The target industries involve farm product processing, light industries, and the manufacturing of rubber products, chemical and plastic products, electrical appliances, electronic parts, cosmetics, computers and cold storages.

Mr Verapong expected the new estate would trigger investment worth 13 billion baht and create more than 3,000 jobs.

Sadao district was suitable for the development thanks to the availability of raw materials and labour, as well as transport links to Malaysia and Singapore, he said.
