Senate finally elects NBTC members

The Senate elected the 11 members of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) on Monday, ending a 14-year saga of legislative indifference and political and business interference.

The Senate, by secret ballot, chose the following 11 commissioners from the list of 44 finalists:

    Interesting choice of delegates, given that internet/digital media technology is currently sending broadcast TV in the same direction as the slide rule, the 8-track, and the steam engine.

    At least 5 of the members are from the Military or the Police and that will ensure that the frequency allocation promised to community radio doesn't happen for at least 6 years. So much for open broadcasting in Thailand and a huge blow to community radio and small market stations as the Military is firmly entrenched in making the regulations that will benefit themselves at the expense of the country.
