B2.33 trillion spending budget approved

The cabinet has approved an expenditure budget of 2.33 trillion baht for the 2012 fiscal year (Oct 2011-Sept 2012), Finance Minister Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala said on Tuesday.

Under the projection government revenue would be about 1.98 trillion baht in the next fiscal year, the budget deficit would be 350 billion baht, equal to the 2011 fiscal year, Mr Thirachai said.

Previously, the government had set the budget deficit at 400 billion baht but it has now tried to limit the figure to no more than 350 billion baht, the minister said.

The previous Dem government, during their tenure, increased the national deficit by nearly 1 trillion baht. 105 billion baht is being spent by PTP to repay the high interest loans taken out during the previous government. But I'm disappointed in PTP for not cutting Dem-era spending for a more balanced budget.

Deficit "equal to the 2011 fiscal year". That's the way Greece has passed through. There's no shame in having deficit if in the next fiscal year the government runs a surplus. Deficit year after year puts nations under default pressure.

Deficit spending as the world goes into a second recession and our government is running a rice buying scheme which already looks like a waste of money and going to give kids bits of plastic instead of updating the education system .Why not just give them to teachers with programmes for them to learn how to teach better .Raising minimum wages and guaranteeing salaries for people with no skills instead of teaching them job skills . What a waste of money .

I want to see what kind of forecasts they have moving forward in terms of expenses

Deficit spending is a slippery slope for Thailand to embark upon. Spending money you don't have can be dangerous for individuals and governments. Good luck!
