Rubber growers issue ultimatum

Rubber growers have given the government five days to make clear its policy to address declining rubber prices, or they will protest in front of the prime minister's house.

"If the government remains unclear about how it will handle prices of rubber by Jan 15, a group of rubber growers will stage a protest in front of the prime minister's house," Para Rubber Council of Thailand honorary chairman Uthai Sonlaksup said on Tuesday.Mr Uthai said rubber growers had been seeking government assistance for three months, but the government had yet to come up with any concrete measures.The drop in prices was attributed to the export of 180,000 tonnes of para rubber to China at only 105 baht a kilogramme, he...

    Who got a sweetheart deal from China for lowering the price of rubber? I would guess some industry other than rubber got a good deal for the lower price of rubber to China.

    Aren't these the same people that last year when the market price was high where buying new cars, SUV's and Pick-ups faster than the Car Companies could build them? Perhaps they should have put away some money in the bank when things were good, to ride out the low prices.

    Somebody really have to explain to these rubber growers how the free market works....it is not the government that should set a price it is the world market...if you cannot compete then improve your operation, be creative work hard and you may succeed, if not find something else to do .... But this will probably end with one of the usual mobs blocking some road somewhere , so sad....
