Consumer confidence in the overall economy rose in January, as did the number of project applications for Board of Investment privileges.
Consumer confidence in the overall economy increased to 64.0 points last month, up from 63.1 reported in December 2011, the Economic and Business Forecasting Centre said on Thursday.
Consumer confidence in job opportunities for the month was 65.4, and 93.1 for future income, according to the centre.
All consumer confidence indices had now risen for two straight months since the flood crisis had ended, said the centre.
Positive factors that boosted consumer confidence were the government’s policy to heal flood victims, to rehabilitate flooded provinces and to rebuild the country, the central bank’s monetary policy committee decision to cut the key policy rate by 0.25 percentage points, and the cabinet’s approval of a new salary structure for civil servants.
