PM 'cautious' on park cable car

More studies are needed before any decision is made on building the proposed funicular railway at Phu Kradeung National Park, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said in Udon Thani on Wednesday.

Ms Yingluck said it is an ecologicaly sensitive area and a cautious approach is needed.

"No decision has been made yet. We would like to wait for the study results on the ecological impact and what the local residents want," she said. "There will be a team assigned to this and we will make the decision afterwards.”

The premier said she has not talked to any residents about the cable car . So far, it is only a request from the private sector, she added.

Waste of money. Thailand still cannot protect its own natural habitat at the moment, why continue to destroy more?

The Swiss,Austrian Italian and French manage to do this without effecting the Alps in fact it adds to peoples enjoyment of such areas. Why not seek advice from the Experts.

An over head cable system would seem a better approach. Less visual and environmental impact.

"We would like to wait for the study results on the ecological impact and what the local residents want." It would surprise me if these two would not conflict. Like in Wang Nam Keow, Khao Yai and other national parks, local residents think of short term financial gains only, disregarding nature and their own mid and long term interests.
