PM told, prices are higher

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra visited a fresh market in Pak Kret on Monday morning to inspect prices of consumer products, and received public complaints about high prices, reports said.

At Pichai market in Nonthaburi's Pak Kret district, consumers and traders told the premier that prices of many goods have gone up.

A vegetable seller told Ms Yingluck that vegetable prices have almost doubled.

Thai has always have a easy way of any problem, blame it on the next person. Regardless of colours when it comes to prices of your favourite tom yum, its protest and compliants for the same cause. If supply is short and demand increases prices will rise to reflect the demand to even out the odds. Since thailand does not have policy to import what they and produce, thailand own shortage will just keep prices rising. It should import some food items from cambodia, india, vietnam or burma if these countries have oversupply. At least Yingluck does marketing, I dont see Oxford guy step inside a kitchen ever.

Inflation happens. I do not like it but seriously object to the pathetic attempts by Thaksin/PTP to mislead honest, hard working Thai people. Their out of touch arrogance and dishonesty will back fire on them. Good.

@med 142. Corruption rules, agree. The best teacher/example is your hero Thaksin.

Med124 - You have no evidence whatsoever to show that 'middle men increasing their prices to make more of a profit' has anything to do with prices rising all over Thailand. It's just another ridiculous conspiracy theory you have invented.

Once again conflicting reports from Nalinee and the Yingluck camp. Thai people are very mild mannered and do not get upset unless there is a real crisis such as RISING PRICES. The fact is prices have risen and continue to do so, that is the true fact and Thai people have a right to be upset. When 2 ears of corn in the market is 25 baht, 60 km from the city in Pathumthan, that is a problem for people earning a daily wage. Everything in the market has increased.

PM Yingluck had already announced that higher prices were only peoples imagination when she sent her people out to check at the various markets. Of course they would toe the line and reflect her statement. Now she has seen and heard first hand about the rising prices. Will she retract her statement and admit she made a mistake? I hope so.
All Thai people that visit the markets daily know that prices have risen and continue to rise.

Wouldn't it be more efficient to just use the data from the commerce ministry or the BoT? Now they all have to pose for photos and waste a whole day

Well said #4. Although, PT probably don't want the Dems to change focus, because it has been working to their (Dems') detriment.

Why are people so cynical.I certainly wouldnt expect Obama or any other prime minister or president to go to markets and check figures for themselves. They would rely on the department responsable for price checking.
Here we have a prime minister who has listened to what has been said and gone out to markets to check for herself if it is true or not.I am sure following her inspections she will consider whats happening and respond accordingly.
I for one applaud the fact that in the midst of all the other things going on, in Rayong for instance, she has taken time out to check this because the dems thought they could score cheap points.
Why dont the dems get onboard and try to help this country with proper political ideas instead of spending all there time chasing cheap shots and the usual flurry of farangs putting their cynical comments in for whatever reasons.
    Lets help not hinder.
