FT charge up, electricity cost up

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved an increase in the fuel adjustment tariff (Ft) rate of 4.04 satang/unit from January to April, which will mean a corresponding increase in electricity charges.

ERC chairman Direk Lawansiri said the Ft charge should actually rise by 13.57 satang/unit to 61.57 satang/unit. However, the ERC decided to increase it by only 4.04 satang/unit to 52.04 satang/unit to help people's pockets.

The electricity price during this period will rise from 3.72 baht/unit to 3.76 baht/unit, in line with the rise in the Ft rate.

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) will shoulder the extra cost, now accumulated to around 5.1 billion baht, said Mr Direk.

The ERC chairman said the main factors for the new Ft rate were increasing demand for electricity and the decision to maintain a flat Ft rate in the previous period.
