Mr Padermchai said the first proposal was to reduce official fees collected from small- and medium-sized hotels by 50% for three years. The fee currently stands at 80 baht per occupied room.

When all SME closes down due to the workers and huge cost increases than it is too late to save these industries. Cost is not only because of wages. What is driving the cost is inavailability of the workers are causing the wages to rise even further. Factories are closing down. The trade figure are going to get worst. Thailand is in deficit for first time seriously since the 1997 crisis. Next year Trade figures also look dim. This is the start of decline of economy. This time it is the death of SME that will eventually lead to disaster. In manufacturing you cannot make fast changes, ask any organisation who manufactures.

Funny, I've not seen many rice farmers or factory workers trying to sell IT equipment or groceries in any of the stores mentioned. No wonder why the wage increase won't affect them much, because they don't employ people on minimum wage, they all have college degrees have had reasonably well off families!

I read the same posters with the same arguments in the Atlanta Post, in 1860 (USA), when Abraham Lincoln decided the blacks had to work for a salary. Do you know, Thailand is rich as Germany and France. Look at the minimum wage in this countries. Even in China it's better. And why this people complain, it was a promise of the PT, no? I even remember that the Thai people voted for this party and it promises. Try, you, to leave (with a family?) for less than B300 a day and come back to write your experience.

Meanwhile the cost of living is going up. PTP just figured this out and call an emergency cabinet meeting next week. A committee will look into it.

The other proposals include increasing the payment for organising government-sponsored seminars…

And who, exactly, sponsors the government in the first place? There’s a reason it’s called Public Money.

Just stopped in at the Villa Mart to pick up a few things. I make this stop quite regular. It always kind of made me laugh to see 5 or 6 young ladies standing around the wine section doing absolutely nothing but smiling and looking pretty. Yesterday and today they are no longer there. Guess maybe it’s time for them to get a job where they actually do something to earn a wage. Nothing wrong with this. Most countries you have to work to earn a living.

Agree with D1 100%. Welcome to modern day Thailand! "relocate their factories to neighboring countries," Mr Kosit said." If Kosit doesn't think the cost of labor will rise in neighboring countries he is in for quite a surprise. Hard to believe these so-called experts make statements like this. Cost of living increases around the world will mandate an increase in labor at some point in all countries. Unbelievable the comments that come from these experts

English Bob. All the PT policies have been successful. Sence coming to office they have single handly destroyed the Thai economy, destroyed the rice market, divided the country, and enriched themselves in the process. Whats not a success?

Still waiting for someone to name a successful Peua Thai policy... 18 months and counting.

    Anyone? Anyone?
