January tax haul tops target

Government tax collections in January exceeded targets by 12.3%, according to Somchai Sujjapongse, director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO).

The total of 161 billion baht collected in January was also 20.1% higher than in January 2012, when the economy was still quite weak in the aftermath of the 2011 floods, he added.

Corporate income tax collections in january this year were 7.9% above the target and 33.1% higher than last year, even though it was the first month that the government had cut the rate to 20%, from 30% earlier.

Value-added tax was 5.9% above the target and or 21.4% more than in January 2012. Personal income tax collections in January were 12.1% above the target and 17.3% higher than last year. 

For the first four months of fiscal 2013 that started in October 2012, the government collected a total of 648 billion baht, exceeding its target by 11.5%.
