DSI clears doubts over BTS fund

The establishment of BTS Growth Infrastructure Fund has nothing to do with the case in which the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is alleged to have illegally awarded a contract to Bangkok Transit System Co (BTSC) to operate the extensions of the skytrain system for 30 years, Department Special Investigation (DSI) chief Tarit Pengdit said on Wednesday.

Mr Tarit said the DSI had launched an investigation at the request of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which had received an application to set up BTS Growth Infrastructure Fund.

An investigation lasting about two weeks found that the fund is not linked to the case in which the BMA is alleged to have authorised Krungthep Thanakhom, the BMA's business arm, to contract BTSC to operate the extensions of the skytrain system for 30 years without proper permission from the interior minister, he said.

The DSI reported the result of the investigation to the SEC on Feb 19, Mr Tarit said.

Mr Tarit earlier said at a press conference that the DSI was investigating whether the contract for BTSC to operate the skytrain extensions was linked to an advertisement for the public to buy shares in the BTS Growth Infrastructure Fund citing future revenues from the operation of the skytrain system in violation of the SEC Act.
