Nadech's contract still in the Clear

Consumer goods giant Unilever Thailand insisted on Monday it had made no decision to drop rising actor Nadech Kukimiya from a series of shampoo commercials in a dispute over payment.

Reports carried by several Thai media outlets said the actor had been dropped from a series of advertisements for Unilever's Clear Men shampoo, and other marketing activities.

Nadech, 22, is the product presenter for Unilever's shampoo. Media agencies say his fee is several million baht. Under his contract agreement he has to take part in all advertising shoots and marketing events.

What does this tell us about a product when Unilever has to hire a “rising actor” and pay him “several million baht” and produce an advert in Japan to sell this product? Is the product so bad that nobody would buy it is they would not spend so much money promoting it? How much do customers who buy this product pay for the advertisement cost and how much for the actual product?
