Car exports rise in February

A total of 94,527 vehicles were exported in February, up 22.26% on February 2012, and an increase of 9.03% on January, Surapong Paisitpatanapong, spokesman for the Automotive Industry Club, said on Thursday.

The export value for the month stood at 41.60 billion baht, up 16.43% on February 2012, said Mr Surapong.

Exports over the first two months of the year (Jan-Feb) totalled 181,224 units, up 38.44% on the same period last year. Export value was up 33.83% to stand at 81.09 billion baht.

Vehicle output in February stood at 229,204 units, up 36.35% on February 2012, but down 2.89% on January, due to fewer working days in the month.

Output over the first two months of the year totalled 465,229 units, an increase of 50.74% on the same period last year.

Domestic car sales over the month totalled 129,910 units, an increase of 42.3% on February 2012, and up 3.25% on January, boosted by the government’s first-car scheme.

Car sales over the first two months of the year stood at 255,727 units, up 51.9% on the same period last year.

Mr Surapong projected car output over the next three months (March-May) at 660,390 units, down 3.81% on the 686,582 units actual output from December 2012 to February 2013, but up 21.41% on 543,912 units actual output from March to May 2012.
