Betagro to build Cambodia plant

Betagro Group will build an animal-feed plant in Cambodia with a capacity of more than 200,000 tonnes a year to cash in on the growing livestock business in the neighbouring country.

The investment is the second of the group in Cambodia. It earlier set up a 160-million-baht pig farm to produce about 1,500 parent pigs in the central province of Kampong Chanan.

Senior vice-president Narongchai Srisantisaeng said presently Betagro exports 3,600 tonnes of animal feed to Cambodia every month.

Located in Phnom Penh Industrial Park, the new plant will help cut logistic expenses and improve market competitiveness.

Construction will be from next month to the end of next year.

The construction of a pig farm on a 400-rai plot is expected to be completed next month. A feasibility study is also planned for a slaughterhouse, meat processing and retail shops in Cambodia.
