Car exports up in March

A total of 102,742 vehicles were exported in March, up 14.39% on March 2012, and an increase of 8.69% on February, Surapong Paisitpatanapong, spokesman for the Automotive Industry Club, said on Thursday.

Car exports exceeded 100,000 units for the first time since 1988, he said.

The export value for the month stood at 44.54 billion baht, up 5.63% on March 2012, said Mr Surapong.

Exports over the first three months of the year (January-March) totalled 283,966 units, up 28.65% on the same period last year. Export value was up 22.26% to stand at 125.64 billion baht.

Vehicle output in March stood at 256,231 units, up 34.34% on March 2012, and an increase of 11.79% on February.

Output over the first three months of the year totalled 721,460 units, up 44.48% on the same period last year.
Domestic car sales over the month totalled 156,951 units, an increase of 41.4% on March 2012, and up 20.82% on February, boosted by the government’s first-car scheme.

Car sales over the first three months of the year stood at 412,680 units, an increase of 47.7% on the same period last year.

Mr Surapong projected car output over the next three months (April-June) at 640,791 units, down 11.18% on the 721,460 units actual output from January to March 2013, but up 14.03% on 561,936 units actual output from April to June 2012.
