On a recent trip to Buri Ram province in northeastern Thailand, I came across the Asean Focus School in Prakhon Chai district. Intrigued by the name of the school and the idea it represented, I stopped and was given a most hospitable welcome by the teachers and pupils, who showed me around and explained what they do.
The school's curriculum, I was told, helps the children to gain an understanding of a world beyond their national boundaries, with the need for friendship and understanding between Asean nations being two of the key elements they are taught.
With the creation of the Asean Economic Community (AEC) fast approaching, the evolution of Asean itself is starting to shape the future for Thailand's education sector.
