Siam Commercial Bank aims to seize the leadership position in all areas of the auto loan business from current No.1 Thanachart Bank in the next several years.
SCB, the country's third-largest bank by total assets, ranks third in auto loans with total debt outstanding of 183.13 billion baht. Auto loans were the bank's biggest growth segment in 2012, up 40.5% from the year before.
The strong growth was supported by the government's first-time car buyer scheme, which expired at the end of the year. SCB financed 50,000 cars under the programme, with only five classified as non-performing loans.
