Dell confident of major revenue boost

Dell Corporation (Thailand) expects double-digit revenue growth in 2014 after its US parent company completes its US$10-billion global organisational transformation programme.

Dell Inc, based in Texas and the world's third-largest computer maker, is transforming itself from a hardware maker to a fully fledged end-to-end information technology (IT) solutions provider to shift away from the struggling personal computer industry.

Anothai Wettayakorn, managing director of the Thai unit, said the company is upbeat about next year, expecting to see double-digit revenue growth for the first time in several years.

"The rapid changing of global IT technology and the imminent third-generation mobile broadband service in Thailand are set to drive our revenue growth next year," he said.

Thailand's overall IT industry is expected to grow by 7-8% this year.

International Data Corporation, the global research firm, said Thailand's IT spending in the enterprise sector will grow by 12% this year, driven mainly by growing business competition and booming mobile devices.

It predict worldwide IT spending in 2013 will exceed $2.1 trillion, up by 5.7% from last year, driven mainly by smartphones and tablets.

Mr Anothai, who is also the general manager for Indochina, said Thailand is the largest market in Southeast Asia for Dell thanks to the country's strong economic fundamentals and high spending on IT.

Dell Thailand received the largest budget increase this year, he said.

To boost revenue, Mr Anothai said the company will spend more on brand awareness, recruitment and adding retail channels.

Dell is focusing on four key business areas - data centres, security, services and software under the themes of transform, connect, inform and protect.

Mr Anothai said Dell is preparing to roll out its low-end notebook, priced below 15,000 baht, for the first time to expand into the untapped mass market.

"We intend to be a top-three vendor in the home-user market," he said.

Dell will set up an office in Myanmar next month.
